Step 1:

List Out Network Devices

The diagram was created using Microsoft Visio, a diagramming tool commonly used for designing network layouts. The user began by selecting the Basic Network Diagram template from the Network category, which provides a set of standard networking shapes and symbols. This template serves as the foundation for building structured and accurate representations of network topologies. Key components such as PCs, a switch, a router, a server, a printer, and wireless access points.

Step 2:

Star Topology

The network follows a star topology, where all PCs are individually connected to a central switch. This layout makes it easy to manage connections and isolate issues, as each device communicates through the central hub rather than directly with each other. Using Visio's Connector Tool, each device was linked to the switch to complete the star topology structure. The switch also connects to the router, which provides access to the internet and connects other components like the server and printer. This centralized design ensures organized data flow and enhances the reliability and scalability of the network.

Step 3:

Assigning IP Addresses

After setting up the network structure, the next step is to assign IP addresses to each device to enable communication. In Visio, this can be done by adding text labels next to each device showing their assigned IP address. Assigning IPs helps define each device’s identity on the network and ensures correct routing of data between them.
